Consumer price inflation average in Saudi Arabia rose to 1.7% in 2024 compared to a year earlier, according to data from the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).

The consumer price index (CPI) rose to 11.30 points in 2024, according to the base year 2018, from 109.45 points in 2023.

Inflation is measured by the percentage change in the cost of living between the current and the year-ago periods. The increase or decline in inflation is measured compared to the previous month.

The higher consumer price index (CPI) was mainly driven byan 8%year-on-year (YoY) rise in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels prices, which highly impacts the inflation rate, due to the increase in housing rental prices by 10.6%.

Food beverage section increasedby 0.8% in 2024, while the restaurant and hotels section went up by 2%. This is in addition to increases triggered in other sections.

On the other hand, clothing footwear and Furnishing, Household Equipment Maintenance sections reported a decline of 3.4% each, followed by the transport section, which fell by 2.4%.

Other sections also saw decreases in the CPI during 2024.
