The Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) reported a 14.45% increase in cargo throughputto 320.8 million tons in 2024 compared to 300.5 million tons in 2023.

Saudi ports said that outbound containers rose by 9% to 2.8 million TEUs, compared to 2.6 million in 2023. The number of inbound containers also increased by 14% to 2.98 million, compared to 2.62 million in 2023.

Handled containers also reached 7.52 million, down 11% from 8.44 million in 2023.

Transshipment containers were down 47% to 1.72 million TEUs, compared to 3.23 million TEUs in 2023.

The maritime traffic saw a decline of 5% year-on-year (YoY) to 11,600 ships in 2024, compared to 12,130 in 2023. The number of passengers also fell 27% year-on-year (YoY) to 736,180 in 2024. Meanwhile, the number of cars decreased by 4% YoY to 1.1 million in 2024, from 1.14 million in 2023.
